Basic Hindi: Ordinal Numbers

Which one goes first? This section will teach you Hindi ordinal numbers from first to tenth.

Hindi Ordinal numbers (क्रमसूचक संख्या) tell the order of things in a set: first, second, third, etc. Ordinal numbers do not show quantity. They only show rank or position.


First: पहला/प्रथम (pahalā/prathama)

Second: दूसरा/द्वितीय (dusarā/dvitīya)

Third: तीसरा/तृतीय (tisarā/tr̥tīya)

Fourth: चौथा/चतुर्थ (cauthā/caturtha)

Fifth: पांचवां/पंचम (pāṃcavāṃ/paṃcama)

Sixth: छठा/षष्ठ (chaṭhā/ṣaṣṭha)

Seventh: सातवां/सप्तम (sātavāṃ/saptama)

Eight: आठवां/अष्टम (āṭhavāṃ/aṣṭama)

Ninth: नौवां/नवम (nauvāṃ/navama)

Tenth: दसवां/दशम (dasavāṃ/daśama)


Examples

Did you read the third book? [ordinal number + noun]- क्या तुमने तीसरी किताब पढ़ी है? [kyaa tumne tisri kitaab pdhei hai?]
