January - janvarii.

Basic - Months of The Year

This section will teach you how to say the months of the year in Hindi.

Month is called 'महिना' (mahina) in Hindi language.

Twelve months a year is called 'साल' in Hindi language.


January – जनवरी (Janavaree). The first month of the year. Indian people celebrate: Republic Day – January, 26th.

February - फरवरी (Pharavaree). Kerala Temple festivals are elaborate and exotic. The main attraction at these festivals is the elephants. It is celebrated starting from February to April, with each festival running for around 10 days.

March – मार्च (Maarch). Second day of March is Cheti Chand, an important festival celebrated as New Year's Day by Hindhi people of India.

April - अप्रैल (Aprail). Bengali New Year, occurring on 14th or 15th April, is the first day of the Bengali calendar, celebrated in the Indian state of West Bengal, by the Bengali people.

May - मई (Maee). In India as in the West, May 1st is celebrated as International Workers' Day. The month of May is still the most inauspicious month in which to get married.

June - जून (Joon). At June 4th, Indian people celebrate the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. It is celebrated as a carnival, in which people and artists bringing out the true color of life.

July – जुलाई (Julaaee). Guru Purnima is Hindu festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. It falls on the day of full moon in the month of Ashadh (July) of Indian national and Hindu calendar.

August – अगस्त (Agast). In India at August 15, is Independence Day, National Holiday.

September – सितम्बर (Sitambar). Onam is a Harvest festival celebrated by the people of India. It is a holiday that lasts four days during the month of September.

October – अक्तूबर (Actubar). Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated yearly on 2nd of October. It is a national holiday celebrated to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation". The United Nations General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that October 2 will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.

November – नवम्बर (Navambar). Diwali is a five day festival in November that represents the start of the Hindu New Year. It honors the victory of good over evil, and brightness over darkness.

December - दिसम्बर (Disambar). The Armed Forces Flag Day or the Flag Day of India is a day dedicated towards collection of funds from people of India for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel. It has been observed annually in India on December 7 since 1949.
